Summertime?
Well I can't believe it's August already - and the fact that the weather's been so bad doesn't really support that argument.
Mind time flies when you're having fun and it's certainly been a jolly few months or so.
I've done a few really great events including Wooden Spoon rugby charity's Golf Week in La Manga, the Ashes dinner for the travelling Aussie fans for the Cardiff Test, the Man Utd. Celebration of the 99 Treble at Old Trafford, the Lords Taverners Celebrity Cricket match at Cholmondley Castle and the Jersey Golf Classic Gala Dinner.
Last week I was fortunate to be invited to play a day in the British Par 3 Championships at Nailcote Hall in the Midlands. What a great event! The turn out was fantastic with celebs from Jasper Carrott to Alex Ferguson. Guest of honour, the legendary Tony Jacklin, was toasted at the post match dinner and paid a touching tribute to his wife by crooning an old Elvis love song to her. Top man! Reminded me that my grandfather was an Elvis impersonater... But sadly there wasn't much call for that type of thing in 1939.
I've also played quite a few events with the Welsh Entertainers Golfing Society or WEDGES as they're better known. They're a great bunch who play all around the Principality, raising funds for worthy charities as they go. Later this year they will contest the Ryderless Cup with some of my pals from across the water who make up the Comedians Golf Society - the Welsh against the English...Now where have I heard that before?
You'd think with all this golf I'd be virtually pro by now but there's still a lot of work to be done. I think I'm standing too near the ball - after I've hit it.
Still I have to stay on top of it as my wife has got the golf bug now and I just can't have her beating me!
Anyway I'm off for a lesson now (no, seriously!) so enjoy what decent bits of summer we have left and console yourself with the thought that the footy season has started!
Great to see Mark Hughes has picked a side he thinks can win the Premiership... CHELSEA!
Over and out
